You don't want to jump ahead to Thud by Pratchett until you've read the rest of the Night Watch books. Take him in order if you really want the full experience.
Thanks for the advice downtown guy. I will indeed read them in order. I have a map thing that I got off the net somewhere that shows the various relationships between the books but I plan on just reading them in order so I don't miss anything.
I've just been buying the books randomly when I find them cheap (when you have such an addiction to books you need to save money where you can!) I'll probably plug in a few holes during the year.
Which reminds me, I visited a nice secondhand bookshop a couple of months back where the owner proudly showed me an almost complete collection of as-new Pratchett's that she was going to put up for sale. I hope she hasn't sold them already!
